Hall Farms, Sunflower Field

Location: 2623 St Nicholas 31st Rd, Rock, Michigan

For about two weeks in the fall, the grounds on Hall Farms are covered with hundreds of thousands of bright yellow flowers that make the place radiant at sunrise and sunset. Hall farms plant about 20 acres of sunflowers every season, and visitors are allowed to cut the flowers for a small fee ($1 for each stem or 6 for $5).

Admission to the farm is free. Photo opportunities among the flowers are endless, and the farm opens daily from 10 am till sunset. They will close the festival when the last flower withers

Open Sky Farm

Location: 5200 Zmikly Rd, Pellston, Michigan

This is a small, certified organic farm that specializes in the growth of vegetables, potted herbs, and freshly cut flowers. They have over 100 varieties of cut flowers, including sunflowers and wildflowers, used to make bouquets. They do not allow people to cut sunflowers from their farm, but you can visit to take beautiful photos in the sunflower patches.

Most of their farm products are sold at the farm stand, but they also deliver flowers and other farm products to different designated pick-up places. You can order floral designs, wreaths, bulbs, and flower mixes from their online store and have them delivered to your location.

Harvest Thyme Farm & Vineyards

Bear Creek Organic Farm

Location: 4012 Atkins Rd, Petoskey, Michigan

This is Michigan’s award-winning and first fully USDA-certified organic farm. They specialize in the production of organic products, honey, and cut flowers. They also use their farm as an education center where they educate visitors on the benefits of growing food organically.

They grow various crops and vegetables throughout the year. You can purchase these farm products either online or at, their farm market when you visit. You would need to schedule a visit. The Red Cardinal Farm is fairly new to sunflower growing, having begun operations in 2019. They have over 30 varieties of flowers and an almost equal number of fruit and vegetable varieties growing on this farm. Everything you see on the farm is organically grown – including eggs from pasture-reared hens. They do not allow a u-pick model, but they welcome visitors to take photos in their sunflower and wildflower fields when the flowers are in full bloom.

You can purchase fresh farm products from their farm stand or online and have them delivered to your location. Some of the vegetables and crops you can find here any time of the year include herbs such as basil, chives, and oregano, vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflowers, peppers, squash, and tomatoes. You will also find a lot of different varieties of cut flowers for sale on the farm. 

Old Mission Flowers

Old Mission Flowers is a family-owned farm that began cultivating flowers in 2015 as a hobby. This hobby turned out to be a good family business, and they set up a market stand on the farm to sell different varieties of cut flowers in the same year. Their sunflowers bl,oom in the fall and although you are not allowed to cut the flowers, you can take gorgeous photos among the flowers on the farm.

Michigan Flower Farm

Michigan Flower Farm sells locally grown farm-fresh-cut flowers. They have a very wide variety (over 500 varieties) and a catalog of the flowers they grow on this farm. Some of the common flowers you will find here include anemones, apple blossoms, chervils, clematis, chives, baptisia flowers, coreopsis, and columbines. Salvia, sweet Anne, and many more. They have many varieties of sunflowers as well.

You are allowed to pick the flowers you want from the farm for your bouquet or floral design. Michigan Flower Farm was established in 2011 when the owners shifted their focus from raising vegetables and animals to growing flowers using organic practices.

Schell Family Farm

Location: 10055 Dexter-Pinckney Rd, Pinckney, Michigan

Sunflowers start blooming in August at the Schell Family Farm. The Schell Family plants about 7 acres of sunflowers and 3 acres of wildflowers. They operate a u-pick model, so you will be free to walk among the flowers and pick some to share with your loved ones back home.

The whole farm is about 250 acres in size. This size offers room to grow other crops, fruits, and vegetables all year round. They put aside about 40 acres to plant over 50,000 Christmas trees on the property. Apples, pumpkins, plums, and cherries are also grown on the farm. They have a 15-acre orchard that contains over 11,000 trees.

When you visit the farm during the fall, you can take advantage of all the other fun activities they have planned here. These include wagon rides, a petting zoo, and other exciting activities. They have set aside well-maintained grounds for hosting parties, weddings, and other social events. 

DeBucks Family Farm

DeBucks Family Farm is a sunflower and lavender farm. They invite visitors to the u-pick farm from July, when the flowers start to bloom. They started with the growing of sunflowers in 2017 before planting lavender later on. While you are here, you have the option to pick either sunflower or lavender or have a bouquet of both to take home with you.

The Lone Oak Sunflower Farm

This is a 19-acre farm that grows over half a million u-pick sunflowers every year. It is a relatively new farm that is open daily throughout the year. It got the name from a huge Oak tree at the property. You are welcome to visit the farm and enjoy taking long hikes amongst thousands of bright yellow flowers.

The photo opportunities among these flowers are unlimited. They charge a fee to visit the farm. You may visit their on-farm gift shop to sample some of the sunflower-themed merchandise they have on sale here if you want to carry a souvenir.

Day Farm Fresh Flowers

Based out of Hudson, Day Farm Fresh Flowers is a small but popular flower farm and florist. They do not allow people to cut sunflowers on the farm. If you have an appointment, they allow people to visit and take photographs on the farm. They specialize in growing blooms for sale to other florists or the general public for weddings, events, or other floral arrangements. Their sunflower blooms are grown organically, and they are native to the Hudson area.

CornFun Corn Maze Adventure and Pumpkin Patch

CornFun will be holding its third sunflower festival in 2021. They have over 10 acres of beautiful u-pick sunflowers. The admission fee to the farm is $15, and this gives you unlimited access to the sunflower field and the corn maze. You will also get one free sunflower stem at this price.

There are many exciting entertainment activities on the farm, including hayrides, a petting zoo, a bounce pad, bull roping, rat races, duck races, tetherball, bonfires, and many more. 

Grandpa Tiny’s Farm

Grandpa’s Tiny Farm is not as tiny as the name suggests. The farm plants about 20 acres of sunflowers and opens the farm to visitors during the Frankenmuth Flower Festival. This is a festival that invites people to enjoy the beauty of the quaint town by exploring several events, including u-pick sunflower fields, dining among the sunflowers, and engaging craft vendors at Grandpa’s farm.

General admission during this festival is $8.50, and this allows you to take one sunflower home with you. You also get access to all the other activities happening within the farm after you pay the admission price.

Degen Sunflower Fields

Just off Highway 99 lies the Degen Farm, where the owners have been growing sunflowers in 18 acres of land for about a decade now. People flock here to take walks among thousands of bright yellow flowers that turn the whole farm into a photographer’s setup.

The farm has another 30 acres of sunflowers in Claybanks Township. Sunflowers and sunset yoga flow are some of the activities that have gained popularity on the farm. People practice yoga whilst enjoying the view of the sunset against a background of thousands of yellow blooms.

Check out their social media platform, where they announce dates for opening their farm during the sunflower festival every year. Once the season is over, the sunflower seeds are harvested and bagged to be sold as bird feed. 

Three Acre Farm

Three Acre Farm is a u-pick flower garden that grows many flower varieties. You will find the information on the kind of flowers they have on their farm on their social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram).

The sunflower season here begins in late June and ends in October. They open from Tuesday to Saturday. Not all flowers are made available for picking, so consult before you do so.

As the Christmas holiday beckoned, they set up a show called ‘Walk through the lights’.
