How to Truly Unplug When on Vacation
While your on vacation whether your looking to relax, be adventurous, or all of the above, you can only be in the moments if your not staring at your phone or laptop constantly. Having your devices or phone hidden in a drawer or luggage isn’t enough for your mind to be unaware it is there. It has to be fully powered down. Your mind needs new things to learn and focus on that’ll create new paths to widen your perspective. You can also have deeper conversations while devices are powered off, because your connecting in a fully focused on doing one thing at a time. Vacations are a way for you to fall into a relaxed state of mind, without a worry or care in the world. You’ve earned those vacation days from all of your hard work, so now you can take it easy. Just your awareness of your cell phone or other device is cause for a distraction. If your office is highly dependent on you then make them all a contact list. In this list add anyone that a person can contact instead of contacting you. Someone from each department if need be, just so you can unplug and enjoy your vacation as it should be. You could leave your hotel number but list it as an emergency only should someone need to call. You can choose a location that is remote and off the grid leaving you anywhere with hardly any cell phone reception. Make a list of things you’d like to do that in no way involve your phone or laptop. This can be reading, writing, drawing, or exploring. Travel with a group. When you have more people around there is sure to be more conversations, laughs, and good times had. If anyone in the group has their cell phone you can put them all on a table or in a basket, somewhere out of sight. You know the saying “out of sight – out of mind”. To keep everyone in true to form vacation mode add a little something. Make it a fun game, say the first person to go for their phone foots the entire bill for the group.
