Hot Springs in Wisconsin

Wisconsin is the waterpark capital of the world – literally. Almost every resort here seems to have a water-themed park. Hot springs are another great thing about this area for those looking for a more natural form of relaxation.

Visitors booking into luxurious hotels or resorts on this list gain complimentary access to these hot springs. Hot springs are designed to offer maximum relaxation and improve the general health and wellness of the visitor. When traveling here, these are some of the places you should visit if you want to take a dip in Wisconsin’s hot springs.

What Exactly Are Hot Springs?

A hot spring is a natural spring that produces water at a temperature higher than the ambient air surrounding it. Most springs are heated by geothermal energy – the heat of the earth. This can be in the form of molten rock (magma) or decomposing organic matter deep within the earth. The heat from these sources warms groundwater, which then rises to the surface as a spring.

The water in hot springs can range from tepid to extremely hot, depending on the depth and location of the spring. Some springs also contain high levels of minerals, which are thought to have therapeutic benefits.

Soaking in a hot spring can be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. It’s no wonder that they are so popular around the world.

What is a Natural Spring?

A natural spring is a water source that flows from the ground naturally. They are often found in hilly or mountainous areas, as they are formed when water seeps through the earth and is then forced to the surface by gravity.

Natural springs can be used for drinking water, irrigation, or even swimming. In some cases, they may be heated by geothermal energy and form a hot spring.

Do Natural Springs Have Mineral Water?

Many natural springs do contain minerals, which can be beneficial to your health. These minerals can include calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium.

Soaking in water that contains these minerals is thought to have therapeutic benefits. Some people believe that soaking in mineral water can help improve skin conditions, relieve muscle pain, and even detoxify the body.

Would you soak in a non-heated spring?

No. Think of a hot spring soak as being in a hot tub with benefits. The water in a hot spring has been heated by the earth, which can make it more relaxing and therapeutic. Non-heated springs are generally just cold water, which may not be as enjoyable.

What About Pregnant Women?

Pregnant women should consult with their doctor before soaking in any hot spring. Some doctors may advise against it, as there is a small risk of contracting an infection. However, many pregnant women find that soaking in mineral water can be beneficial to both themselves and their babies.

Tips for Enjoying Any Hot Springs

First of all, if this is the first time you need to consider if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, or are pregnant, please check with your doctor before you try any of these hot springs. That prior medical consultation can be important before you take that good soak in those warm mineral waters, especially for elderly persons.

Make sure you set reasonable time limits for your soak. Too much of any good thing can be bad. Water temperature ranges vary greatly from spring to spring, so check the water temperature before you get in. If the water is too hot for your comfort level, get out and find another spring with a more comfortable temperature range for you.

ips for Enjoying Any Hot Springs

Drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after your soak. Dehydration can occur quickly when indulging in any activity, including soaking in hot springs.

Don’t be under the influence of alcohol before or during your soak. Alcohol can dehydrate you and make you feel dizzy.

Be respectful of other people who are trying to enjoy the springs.

If you are feeling a bit “under the weather” before your soak, it might be best to wait until you feel better before enjoying those mineral waters. Finally, relax and enjoy your surroundings! Soak up the natural beauty of Wisconsin while you’re relaxing in some of its finest hot springs.
