One of the things I love about the Northwoods of Wisconsin is the plethora of amazing restaurants to dine at. From casual stops to supper clubs, there is a tasty morsel to be had at so many different places that you will need to visit the area over and over again. Norwood Pines Supper Club should be at the top of that list, in my opinion.
It is always said that food is the source of life, and when it is as good as making you smile and yearn for more, we can safely say it is worth a visit. A visit to Norwood Pines Supper Club will clue you in as to how it is one of Wisconsin’s oldest and best supper clubs.
Norwood Pines Supper Club
The view from the restaurant overlooks the Whitetail Deer (who pop in for regular visits) and Patricia Lake. Norwood Pines presents an atmosphere of relaxation, great customer service, a beautiful dining environment, and great amenities. Norwood Pines has a rich history that helps to make the entire dining experience more worthwhile.
Dining at Norwood Pines will give you a unique experience like a screened-in porch and a cozy fireplace. You can always look forward to some of the best North Atlantic cod and steaks in their nightly servings topped with freshly grown produce from the city’s backyard.
Visiting either for the first time or being a regular visitor, we can assure their famed servings of seared Ahi Tuna, BBQ Ribs, or Filet Portabella will have you “pining” to pair these tastes with a classy glass of wine. Each day in Wisconsin has a different experience for you, and at Norwood Pines, you can enjoy the best of your Friday nights with their famous fish fries.
Norwood Pines History is Intriguing
Many people who have seen horror films know that people should be leery of a place that is tucked back into the woods. We yell at the actors on the screen to be smarter, but they never listen. (sigh) So, you may feel that sense of hauntedness (is that even a word?) whenever you step into the restaurant as its original location – in the woods – spells that out completely.
Interestingly, the history of the location is freely shared by the staff, as all are versed in the tragic history that led to its haunting.
Norwood Pines Supper Club Ghost
The house was formerly operated as a bordello, and the master eventually fell in love with one of his call-girls who inhabited the “hotel” above the restaurant. However, it turned out that she turned down his romantic gestures and offer. It hit poor Edgar pretty hard and eventually killed himself and to this day walks the premises to vent.
Wild!
Since the restaurant opened in the 1930s, it has had 15 different owners and hands-down the current ones have made the most of its success. The previous owners were all apparently cursed … as a previous owner’s wife placed it. You can learn a little more about it in this video – although the story of Edgar is a little different than what we have been told –
Dining During The Pandemic
The Covid-19 pandemic has made so many changes to the way people eat out, and Norwood Pines Supper Club has been atop their game to create an environment that allows you to eat out safely and still create memories with your friends and family. They have designed a setting that creates the required spacing for each person and follows all the health guidelines and protocols to maintain the highest level of security for both staff and customers.
Even the standard Supper Club relish tray comes in a box so you have no worries about it traveling to your table. The staff was masked, and all social distancing rules were observed. We were beyond happy to know of all their precautions as the day after our visit they closed. A staff member had tested positive for Covid and they shut down the restaurant.
That is their care and dedication to the safety of all their staff and guests.
Norwood Pines Supper Club Menu
Norwood Pines serves as one of the oldest and best fine-dining supper clubs in Wisconsin and is surrounded by the best that nature has to offer. The satisfaction of your taste buds is the ultimate goal of the team at Norwood Pines, and they do it with such class and style.
A traditional supper club menu – it boasts everything from Fettuccini Alfredo to Broiled Walleye Almondine. They have servings such as Cajun baked cod, deep-fried cod, broiled cod, etc. In addition to their amazing fish fries, they come served with Norwood Pines’ corn fritters, an original serving you will love.
Do you fancy “all you can eat” settings? Well, Norwood Pines is the perfect location to satisfy this quest. They are one of the places that still offer an all-you-can-eat Friday night fish fry!
Personally, I went with the Fillet Oscar – a 6oz tenderloin topped with steamed fresh asparagus, real crab meat, and drizzled with hollandaise sauce. It. Was. Perfect.
The kid always does the Fettuccini and hubs went with their legendary ribs.
All dinners, except the pasta, are accompanied by hors d’oeuvres, soup, or salad (tossed or Caesar). Choice of potato, wild rice pilaf, or their vegetable du jour, and fresh baked bread.
Yes, dining is an experience in a supper club – with a staging of courses, and well worth that 2-3 hour investment of your time.
Does Norwood Pines Have Outdoor Seating?
No, but they do have a screened in porch. We enjoyed a nice summer evening there.
Either way, you desire to put it, the food, staff, environment, and everything about the restaurant is ideal for a fun experience. With ingredients sourced locally and prepared by a team that is passionate about creating good food, you can rest assured of a meal like you’ve never had before.
If you happen to be in and around the Wisconsin Northwoods area and need a great relaxing and nature-themed location to eat…Norwood Pines Supper Club is a perfect choice. We can safely say you will have no regrets – good food, great customer service, and an enchanting dining environment await you.
