If you know me, you know that my kid started college at the age of 9 and had a HUGE thing for all things space. We have telescopes, visit planetariums, and so much more. That is why I was beyond tickled to be able to check out this first-class facility while in town.

Explore the INTUITIVE Planetarium: A Guide to Huntsville's Unique Space Adventure

The INTUITIVE® Planetarium is a revolutionary way to experience and explore the wonders of space, all without leaving the comfort of Earth. Located inside the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, this one-of-a-kind attraction offers visitors an immersive experience unlike any other in the country.

Through the use of advanced projection technology, the INTUITIVE® Planetarium allows visitors to virtually travel through the galaxy under a seamless domed screen. This 250-seat theater is designed to help guests connect with the cosmos and learn about the universe in a whole new way.

When I was attending the Southern Travelers Explore conference and got to play in beautiful Huntsville, Alabama we were treated to this place. On our first night, we had our opening event at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, hosted by the Huntsville – Madison County CVB.

After refreshments and a little time to socialize with other conference attendees, we were gathered in the planetarium and treated to a demonstration of what they could do and then they ran the Nebula with violin music. I wish I could describe it better for you here – it was amazing. They showed different, incredibly beautiful nebulas with a violin song playing that was designed for them.

I had had a long day of travel and had mild medication for my flights – I found it beautiful, relaxing, and something I would have enjoyed for a few hours straight.

What is the INTUITIVE® Planetarium?

The planetarium opened its doors in February 2019 and has become a beloved attraction for tourists and locals alike. This state-of-the-art facility was built in collaboration with INTUITIVE Research and Technology Corporation, which aspired to create an educational hub for the community that would inspire generations of space enthusiasts.

Before being transformed into the INTUITIVE® Planetarium, the building spent three decades as an illustrious IMAX theater that showcased many award-winning documentaries, including some about NASA’s Space Shuttle Program. It was a popular destination for school field trips and group events.

The IMAX has been replaced by INTUITIVE®’s incredible technology that allows visitors to explore space in a completely new way. The planetarium is the first in the world to use the Evans & Sutherland ESX cinema system, which features a stunning 8k projection system and crystal clear 4K RGB lasers. The sound

This means that every show will dazzle with precise clarity and stunning realism, immersing guests in the beauty and mystery of space. It is an unforgettable interstellar journey unlike any seen before

Sounds of Space is an audio/visual experience that takes guests on a journey of sound. Cutting-edge technology turns raw data into ambient sounds that allow observers to “listen” to the sounds of space. Ever wondered what Jupiter sounds like? This show has the answer.

Space Explorers: ISS Experience

Space Explorers: ISS Experience gives viewers an intimate look into the lives of eight astronauts living and working aboard the International Space Station. Filmed over two years, this four-part series is the largest production ever filmed in space and offers a look into what it’s like to be on a mission to space.

Sip on one of their signature space-themed cocktails while learning about the universe in a fun and relaxed setting. Each week explores a new and exciting topic, from astrological constellations to asteroids and meteors. Come out for a unique date night or a fun evening with friends.
